Happy Monday Admirals!

We are officially funded! Wow!! You've done it! This has been an incredible weekend and an incredible Monday so far!To each of you who have decided to support this swashbuckling journey, Thank You. Without you, this game would not be coming to tables around the world (including yours if you've backed at the commodore level) Tonight is the final event I have planned for this Kickstarter (let me know if you'd like one on the final day as a sendoff from Kickstarter). Tonight's stream will be on twitch.tv at 7 pm CST, if you have any questions regarding the Kickstarter, Old Salt, me, or the process of getting this awesome game to your table, this will be a great opportunity for asking those questions. I'll be the "Ref" for tonight's stream so will be keeping an eye on chat and can reply then and there. If I don't have an answer at the moment, I'll work on getting the answer and including it in a future update.  In the event you are unavailable tonight to ask those questions, please email me ([email protected]) or message me on Kickstarter and I'll be in touch as soon as I can.

Link to the stream: https://www.twitch.tv/oldsaltbg

We'll be playing through one of the nine missions in the campaign that'll be included in the game of Old Salt, can't wait to see how it pans out!

At the time of writing this update, we have about 70 hours remaining in the Kickstarter. We are in an excellent spot to reach a stretch goal! Let's go! To those unfamiliar with stretch goals, they are designed to physically improve the quality of the game at no extra cost to the backer. Let's see what we can do! I'll also be uploading a new graphic to the Kickstarter page for stretch goals here in a few minutes but here is a snippet of it for your convenience.

Side Note: I am working on fleshing out the remaining faction-specific missions that backers have unlocked through social goals (excellent work by the way). If you would like to spitball ideas or epic mission quests to include in these missions drop by the Old Salt discord and let's chat! https://discord.gg/BSm3gXtG

Hope you all have a great rest of your Monday! And great work on helping Old Salt reach its funding goal!

Final Leg Of The Trip Nearing 90%
over 4 years ago – Sun, Sep 26, 2021 at 11:00:39 PM

Good Evening Admirals!

A very "Happy Friday" to you. I hope you have an excellent Friday and a great weekend. Thank you so much to all the new backers who have climbed aboard this swashbuckling journey! And to the backers who have been with us for longer, I thank you as well. I am truly thankful for each and every one of you.

As far as I've heard, you've been enjoying the browser version of Old Salt that has been unlocked thanks to Riley's Quest.  If you missed that announcement, check out the link below to play the alpha version of Old Salt the video game:

https://kneeshawdevelopments.itch.io/old-salt

That link will take you to the developer's site for you to play with anyone and everyone! Disclaimer: This is still in development so if you encounter any bugs/glitches/crashes please report (~ key to report) it in game.

Apart from that, we got a couple of activities this weekend for you to enjoy.

If you don't happen to be local (or willing to drive 16+ hours) we have a live stream on twitch primed for you to enjoy. It'll be one of three Alternate Game modes because why hard cap a game to only 1 way to play? The link to tomorrow night's stream can be found here: https://www.twitch.tv/oldsaltbg

This stream will be at 6:30 CST on Saturday Night.

I'm also working on setting up another AMA event for Sunday night to show off a campaign mission for Old Salt, we'll see if we can get that locked in and ready for you to enjoy as well.

Hope to see you this Saturday at either The Front Page or on Twitch!

Cheers,

Tim

The Portal from Riley's Quest
over 4 years ago – Sat, Sep 25, 2021 at 06:56:40 PM

Hello Admirals,

This update is more so related to Riley's Quest and the big surprise that comes with the completion of her story. The big surprise of Riley's Quest is that the portal Riley was searching for was actually designed to grant the realm access to the world wide web. Now that it is unlocked for her realm, everyone is granted access to a browser version of Old Salt that you can play on tablets and computers! This is an alpha version of Old Salt and after development we will have a full launch on Steam. If you would like early access to the steam key at a reduced price for what it will cost on Steam, I have unlocked an Add-on that grants a Steam key after the Kickstarter ends, more information in that add-on description.

Read on below to check out the browser version of Old Salt with your crews. Multiplayer is up (although we are still discovering bugs, so a bit of patience may be needed), feel free to share the link below with anyone you'd like to share the war table with.

Riley has completed her quest, by locating and unlocking the portal. Riley is now a full-fledged Old Salt. With the portal unlocked, all realms have temporary access to playing Old Salt with computers and tablets with anyone in the world. This includes you and your crews!

https://kneeshawdevelopments.itch.io/old-salt

Disclaimer, this is an alpha version of Old Salt that you can play with anyone and everyone. There are bound to be bugs, glitches, and errors but I ask for patience and grace during the process of developing and removing bugs to get Old Salt primed for the virtual world. As far as rules and how to play, this is Old Salt through and through. If you need a refresher on the rules, click on the graphic below!

I hope you enjoy! If you have any questions about how to play, join our discord and I or Michael will be in touch as soon as we can: https://discord.gg/mCBsrb52

In other news, I am preparing for a few different events towards the end of the month where I'll be demoing Old Salt to anyone and everyone. I expect these will push Old Salt past the $18,000 mark needed to fund. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy the browser version of Old Salt and if there are any bugs, errors, glitches hit the ~ key to report a bug. Reports are excellent for finding, fixing and improving the game.

Cheers!

Riley's Quest!

Part XI. The Unlocked Portal

Riley tells her story with immense passion and through the tears and laughter she elaborates on the events of the quest of a scrappy young woman pursuing an epic quest. Riley dove into the story of persuading a wise mentor over an incredible breakfast, sailing the sea with a wild storm, meeting a sea monster and living to tell the tale. And she made sure to include some of the legendary elements as well but the main focus of the story was on Riley's quest, as it should be.

The door at the base of the tree swings open, and the troll happily lets Riley, Grandpapi, and Cat through the door which leads into a small dimly lit room with a bulky box in the center. Seeing unknown symbols scrawled into the box and noticing a button on the table next to box that read “enter” without any other hints or clues readily available, she hit enter. The screen flickered and changed to a welcome screen. Whispering to herself “what the he-” as the gods themselves appeared out of thin air and exclaimed: “FINALLY! We can play Old Salt!”
Riley, looking completely dumbfounded and suddenly crowded by gods, received a brief, rushed explanation from one of the gods. “Hey Riley, this probably seems pretty wild, never seen a god and now surrounded by them, ha!” He paused talking to her to exclaim “Hey, Herms, I’m up next!” He continued to her “Anyways Riley, Old Salt is a board game from another dimension that we have been wanting to play for centuries. We connected our realm to theirs with this magic machine we stole from another realm. We couldn’t open the door because only a fully-fledged Old Salt could open the door. Since we are gods and not old salts, we gave you the quest to open the door.” He looked satisfied with his explanation until he glanced back at her for confirmation whereupon he continued.
“Now that it's been opened, we can play Old Salt with anyone in the realms! For your efforts, here’s a canister that will grant you 3 wishes, or something. You should be careful with the bottom part of the - No it's my turn Orin!” Riley didn’t get the rest because it was apparently his turn to play this Old Salt game and he had completely forgotten she was there. Riley looked at her loot, unsure which side was the bottom, and squeezed through the now crowded room of gods spouting strategies and demanding to play next. One god even asked the room if they wanted a large pepperoni with pineapple? No clue. She could sort it out later when she took a closer look at this canister. And did that god just call her an Old Salt?

Nearly 80% funded
over 4 years ago – Sun, Sep 19, 2021 at 03:52:40 PM

Hello Admirals!

We are having a great weekend so far and are hoping for big things by the end of the weekend. We are very excited for our next stream event on the 25th. We'll use the same twitch link we used with the previous event. Sunday's update we will post a link along with the time of the event. We hope you'll join us and invite your crews to join in the fun!

At the time of writing this we have exceeded the $14,000 funded threshold. With less than $4,000 to go and 11 days to do go, I think we are in a really great spot to fund and possibly unlock a stretch goal!

Riley's Quest!

Part X. End Of The Road

Riley knew she alone wouldn’t win this fight, even with Grandpapi's flute. She would need help from the gods that promised they would protect her. She put her fists up, mostly in a delay tactic for waiting on the gods to provide aid. Nothing happened.  The human on her left realized that Riley must have been bluffing, strutted over to her, saying “This wi-” BLAMO he was struck down by lightning. "Oooh my god!" Riley exclaimed, more so in a scream. Oh gods the ringing! The gods certainly took care of that bandit but she wondered if they could have done something a little less...loud...?  The Barbarian and other human starred in stunned disbelief before making a run for it into the night. Well, she certainly understood now why people would devote their whole lives to serving a god, this was great! Being on their good side had its benefits.

Onward on the quest, eventually Riley's hearing returned with only slight ringing,  Riley's heart pulls to a big tree with a door at the base of it, this must be the spot. The little entrance was blocked by an old troll holding a sign that said good stor-e only. The door has  "Portal” written on it. That's a great sign.  As Riley approached, the aged troll stated with an unexpected clarity that the door will only open with the best told stories. If the door doesn't open after the story, you cannot pass.

In Riley's heart of hearts, she knew she must tell her own story in order to past the test of this door. How does Riley tell her story?

A thrilling adventure where a scrappy young woman and wise grandfather chases after a dream?

A mysterious story of divine intervention, epics, and legendary monsters?

Vote which direction Riley goes by leaving a comment below this update on Kickstarter with the best path forward! Stay tuned for our next update to see what Riley decides to do!
