Prefundia Side Quest: In progress

To the admirals that took up the call to action and made it happen, I received an email notifying me that Old Salt had made it into the Top 3 spots! How awesome is that! You did that!

Prefundia notified us that projects reset from week to week. So in order to have a chance at getting into the top 3 spots for this Wednesday evening, we made a new project! The link can be found here:
https://prefundia.com/project/61352a85c66d8631108f980d
The goal of this mission is to get Old Salt included in their newsletter that goes out to 43,000 people on Thursday. If we get into that newsletter, we were going to unlock the 3 faction-specific missions.  I’m upping the reward for completing the "side quest" to 5 faction-specific missions. That way each of the six factions has a mission that players can enjoy and immerse themselves into.

Monday’s Youtube AMA / watch party

As many of you know, we ran into some technical difficulties with yesterday's planned event. We pushed the event to Monday evening at 8 pm CST and hope you’ll be able to join us. The content of the video will be a playthrough of Old Salt on a pre-kickstarter prototype with me and a couple of good friends. During this playthrough, we’ll have a live chat up for anyone and everyone to ask questions about Old Salt, me, and the Kickstarter.

Part IV. Onwards and Upwards.

Riley decided that this quest was brought on by the gods and the gods would be in charge of keeping this quest afloat. She yelled out over the winds and thunder, “Keep to the course!”

The hull began to glow a soft golden aura, the mast that seemed to be committed to tearing itself off the ship began to miraculously stitch back together as if from a fairy tale. Her crew was witnessing a god-tier level intervention! The next flash of lightning that struck impacted the ship but ricocheted out across the water as far as the eye could see. It would appear her quest was no fever dream, but a vision from a god.

After the storm had passed on to bother other ships in the sea, a not so subtle thud sounded against the hull. Riley scrambled up to the top of the deck when the water began to be replaced by what could only be considered a looming mountain, a monster.

Straight out of a nightmare, the boat lurches out of the water. Stumbling to the floorboards, Riley’s mind reeled for an escape, a plan, anything for how to deal with this. Her heart pulled towards the monster, oh no. Was this actually part of the quest?! Not having many options, to begin with, Riley stood up on shaky knees and veins coursing with adrenaline and looked straight at the creature and bellowed out with only a slight tremor in her voice: “I’ve a story for you!”

The low rumble that followed was akin to what she thought a talking boulder would sound like. Riley had to barter for their lives and their ship and she was granted the elegance of a stage 20 paces above the surface of the ocean to tell a story to a monster.

Does Riley tell a story about the mighty lion trapped and set free by a little old mouse? Or a story about exploring great swaths of dry land unfettered by water and currents.

Vote which story Riley tells the sea creature by leaving a comment below this update on Kickstarter! Stay tuned for our next update to see what Riley decides to do!

We also wanted to take a moment to spotlight another game that launched on Kickstarter a couple of days ago called Delvers: Heroes of Farenwald. Our good friend Kevin Tracy developed a competitive storytelling card game that introduces players to the diverse and exciting world of TableTop RPGs. Players choose a class, roll some dice, and tell great stories with this new card game. If that sounds up your alley, definitely check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/delvergame/delver

Part III. Storms and Sails

As Riley and Grandpapi (and the cat) enjoy their breakfast, Riley dives into an elegant tale of a young adventurer who means well but is in desperate need of a mentor to guide him on his journey to change the world. A wise dwarf rises to the occasion and the two embark on a legendary adventure together. Grandpapi, genuinely surprised by the fervor of Riley’s storytelling is absorbed into the story and before she can complete the tale, Grandpapi is packing his things and ready to go!

Riley, Grandpapi, and Cat rush to the docks and boldly set sail from port in the direction her heart seems to be pulling.

One hour in, her heart changed course and began tugging directly towards a storm...and as they drew nearer, the storm grew in intensity, almost as a challenge to their course. The winds howled, lightning struck terrifyingly close to the ship, time and time again, and the rain pelted the skin like needles.      The gods promised to guide her heart. If this path was a bad call, they’d change her direction or the intensity of the storm...right? On the contrary, gods are immortal, what do they know of drowning and a ship split in two from a lightning strike?

As if spawned by the thought, a lightning bolt thick as a house spiked into the water no more than 20 paces from the ship. In a sight none would believe, the water went alight and became transparent as glass just long enough to see a hulking mass the size of her town a thousand paces away. She blinked a few times to refocus on the object but the illumination snapped out turning the ocean back into a curtain of secrets. It was now or never. Make the call to press forward or skirt around this storm.

Does Riley sail straight through the storm and cling to the protection of the gods? Or does she skirt around the storm in the name of sanity?

Vote which direction Riley goes by leaving a comment below this update on Kickstarter with the best path forward! Stay tuned for our next update to see what Riley decides to do!

80 Backers and Sailing Strong!

  • Monday the 20th - A playthrough of the first campaign mission and a brief overview of what the campaign will have in store for backers.
  • Saturday the 25th - A playthrough of one of our Alternate Game Modes.

These are great events to invite your friends to so they can check out Old Salt in action! Whether it's a campaign mission or a watch party, we'd love to throw a big "huzzah!" at each of these!

Say hello to Grandpapi and Cat!

Part II. Breakfast and a story.

Out of breath and back at her doorstep, Riley is greeted with the scent of Grandpapi’s famous breakfast being prepared inside. She was definitely going to miss that smell! Opening up the door she sees Grandpapi preparing breakfast in the kitchen. The moment Grandpapi turned around to greet Riley, her cat takes the unique opportunity to deftly snag a prize from the sizzling pan on the stovetop. Undetected, of course.

Riley steps into the kitchen and asks Grandpapi if she will join her on this quest from the gods to find a Portal. Pausing only a moment, Grandpapi unfazed by the request replies with the wisdom of the aged:

“Breakfast?”

Riley smiles and takes a seat, her heart pulling again towards her Grandpapi. He is the right person for this quest, she wouldn't need to build trust with a stranger, the only issue was she needs to persuade him to join her on this quest with a story.

What story does Riley tell?
A story of a young adventurer who explores ancient ruins with a wizened mentor?
Or
A story about a retired Fisherman who goes out to sea one more time in pursuit of the biggest catch of them all?

Vote which story Riley dives into by leaving a comment below this update on Kickstarter! What is the best path forward? Stay tuned for our next update to see what Riley decides to do!

That's all we got for today, Admirals! This update caps the end of our opening 48 hours and we couldn't be happier with how we are doing so far!

Sail on, Admirals! Sail on.

Set Sail On Our Maiden Voyage!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Sep 01, 2021 at 10:19:34 AM

Hello Admirals!

What an incredible start! Thank you for hopping aboard this swashbuckling adventure with us! We had a great turnout for day 1 and at the time of writing this post, we have funded $5,500 and 62 backers! Phew!

Apart from a solid chunk of our goal taken care of, we just unlocked our first faction-specific mission! Thanks to some great backers completing the Town Criers social goal! Old Salt will now come with an Eternal Mission that highlights their Transcension ability! You did that!! The next level of Town Crier is unlocked at 25 shares of this post: https://www.facebook.com/OldSaltBoardGame/photos/a.122432772511081/555066999247654

On top of a great day 1, we have an exciting adventure to start rolling out called Riley's Quest! A 12 part journey set in the world of Old Salt. You, the backer, get to steer the course of her journey by voting on these updates to see which path Riley takes!

Part I. The quest and the crew.

Riley grew up dreaming big. She yearned to explore the seas and tell friends, foes, and monsters the most incredible tales. Stories that people couldn’t possibly believe unless they heard them coming from a legendary storyteller. Stories only an Old Salt could tell.
One night, just like any other night, Riley had a dream that sparked a quest to surpass all quests.

Mysterious figure: “RILEY, YOU MUST TRAVEL TO THE PORTAL. WHEN YOU WAKE UP, TAKE YOUR SHIP AND SAIL WITH FOOD AND DRINK TO LAST TWO WEEKS. THE GODS WILL GUIDE YOUR HEART ON THIS JOURNEY TO FIND THE PORTAL. GO RILEY. WAKE UP!”

Riley flew out of bed and gathered up as much food and drink she could carry with Grandpapi and the cat still fast asleep. With a whispered goodbye to Grandpapi, she was off on her quest, sprinting towards the ocean with a grin from ear to ear.

Midway to the harbor, it dawned on her that she needed a crew. Her heart began to pull in two different directions. One direction pulled back home to recruit Grandpapi and her cat. The other pulled to move forward and find a crew down at the docks.

Riley was torn but decided to...

In the meantime, Admirals, we have Social Goals ready to be completed. Completing social goals helps unlock faction-specific missions (up to 28 of them!). Just be sure to post your exciting adventure to either Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with #OldSalt and #SocialAdmiral so we can find them and get them counted to unlock more faction-specific missions! One of our favorite social goals is the Dockmaster.

Check out the bottom part of our Kickstarter page to see the other Social Goals available to you and let's unlock some more missions!
